Therapeutic Phlebotomy

A measured draw of blood, on a schedule set by your labs — the oldest treatment for iron overload, done properly.

Therapeutic Phlebotomy at Rehab Reform in Rochester Hills

What it is

Some bodies carry too much iron, or run too many red blood cells — hereditary hemochromatosis, polycythemia vera, or iron loaded up over years of transfusions. Left alone that surplus is quietly corrosive: iron settles into the liver, heart and joints, and thickened blood moves harder than it should.

Therapeutic phlebotomy removes it the direct way. Each session takes about a unit of blood — and roughly 200 to 250 mg of iron with it — and your marrow answers by building fresh red cells, pulling stored iron back into circulation and drawing the total load down. We run it to targets, ferritin and hematocrit checked as we go, then taper to a maintenance rhythm once you're in range.

It isn't a blood-donation booth. It's a prescribed treatment measured against your own bloodwork — the same test, target, re-test discipline the rest of this place is built on.
